Dear John,
How are you doing? I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. Do you still remember I got angry with you last Friday when you said “You are indeed a lucky dog”? Because in China when someone is described as a dog, he / she is being made fun of.
Later, I learned the true meaning of the sentence from my American teacher. She told me that the expression “a lucky dog” in your culture is simply a figure of speech meaning “a lucky person” and has nothing to do with dogs of the four-legged kind.
Having thought the matter over, I realized that it was our different cultural backgrounds that led to the misunderstanding. So I want to sincerely apologize to you for my mistake. I do hope it won’t affect our friendship.
